Region Ten Celebrations

General Suggestions for Any OA Celebration

These ideas are adaptable to any celebration and have been mainly gleaned from previous PI publications and correspondence. Public Information Service Manual, and OA Guidelines, (which are downloadable from the Overeaters Anonymous World Service Office Website) are very valuable for help in arranging events. The Intergroup Support (big blue) folder contains lots of useful material. Also your Region Ten Rep should be able to direct you to helpful resources, following the workshop held at the recent Assembly.
  • Use the special day as a meeting topic e.g. Unity, Abstinence
  • Be a living example that the programme works
  • Take up a special purpose collection
  • Arrange a shared meal before or after a meeting
  • Arrange a special leaflet drop or flyer drop with a specialemphasis eg Counsellors, Doctors, Dieticians, Eating Disorder Units, Recovery establishments
  • Arrange a 24 hour Prayer Vigil. Every hour a person undertakes to say the Serenity Prayer and another short prayer for the special purpose
  • Arrange a workshop or mini-convention
  • Arrange for the OA book or Lifeline to be donated to your local library or your Doctors' rooms
  • Arrange for a member's story of recovery, plus contact details to be published in a local paper or magazine
  • Arrange for your group to visit with a smaller or isolated or struggling group
  • Phone or email other members
  • Arrange a Public Meeting or Forum for health care professionals
  • Put up a P I Display in a library or mall
  • Contact your local High school Guidance counsellor with "Planting a Seed " in mind.
